The sun rose this morning on a winter wonderland here. Three inches of snow lay glistening on the ground and more continued to fall throughout the morning.
My inner child was jumping for joy.
So after lunch I pulled on layers of clothing (“I CAN’T MOVE MY ARMS NOW!!!”), grabbed my sled (Yes, I am an adult who owns a sled. Don’t judge.), and drove to the sledding hill at Ohiopyle State Park. Apparently nobody else nearby had the time or inclination to go sledding. Go figure. So I had the fresh snow and hill to myself. This later proved to be a good thing.
Apparently it’s difficult to steer in general, but holding one’s cell phone makes things much more challenging.
And wet.
Sans video, I made it a few times without wiping out, but certainly had fun in the process. Just an hour or so playing around was enough. I came home wet, cold, and content.
Wishing you childlike wonder, simple joys, and laughter.
In 2009 I was working full time in medicine, and living a life that was alienated from what I truly valued. While volunteering with a local hospice, I began to wonder: "What would I do differently if I had six months to live?". This began the impetus to change direction.
While it has been a case of two steps forward, one step back in many ways, there has still been slow movement in the direction of a more authentic life.
Since the pivotal decision to change direction, I have been a Buddhist nun, returned to lay life, changed Buddhist schools, returned to medicine part time, and then full time, quit again, traveled extensively, trained in yoga, spent time in several Buddhist monasteries, and am in the process of how to live according with Buddhist and yogic practice and values, and how to streamline this life into something worthwhile.
In the Theravadan Buddhist practice, one of the daily reflections is "Has my practice born fruit with freedom or insight, so that at the end of my life, I need not feel ashamed when questioned by my spiritual companions?". That is my practice. My goal in this blog is to share the journey along the way.

Reminds me of the childhood sledding hill in the town where I grew up in the Chicago suburbs…
You know Metta we have all the seasons and terrains in India. It is already snowing in North 😊
I had spent first ten years of my life at Shimla, where it snows every year 😊
As of now am happy at home. Let us wait and see what 2021 brings 🤗
I was referring to Pune specifically. There are definitely so many varied and beautiful places in India! Although I’ve been to northern places like Sikkim, Ladakh, and some other areas in northern HP, I’ve not been to Shimla. I hear it’s beautiful!

Loved the sled video. Haven’t been sledding in many years but I remember doing it and how much fun it was as both a kid and as an adult.
